Busy Weekend for Play Ball!

February 27, 2012

It was a busy weekend for the Play Ball project as spring training festivities are starting to happen all over the Cactus League.

On Saturday and Sunday, baseball fans couldn’t get enough of Susie Steckner’s new book about spring training.

Fans attending the first-ever Scottsdale Baseball Festival were the first to get the book, and they loved it. Susie was busy selling and signing copies of her work, which goes on sale online today.

On Saturday night, Susie and Play Ball Project Leader Robert Johnson talked about the book and the Play Ball project with Jay Lawrence on his evening radio talk show on 92.3 KTAR.

Jay is a huge baseball fan and couldn’t stop looking through the book even as we were live on the air!

The first of four Play Ball exhibits also opened this weekend at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. People attending the baseball festival flocked inside to see the show, featuring the nation’s only collection of Cactus League spring trainign history.

This weekend was only the beginning though, as two more Play Ball exhibits launch this Saturday, March 3. The first, at 51 E. Main Street in downtown Mesa, will continue beyond spring training and feature even more of the one-of-a-kind collection.

The other show opens inside Goodyear Ballpark for fans attending a Cleveland Indians or Cincinnati Reds spring contest.

Also, on Saturday, Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry joins Susie at the Camelback Ranch FanFest from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to sign copies of the book, which includes a foreword from Perry.
